Tribute in memory of Maria Callas

Every year on September 16, the Maria Callas Museum pays tribute to the memory of the greatest opera artist of the 20th century, honoring this significant date with dedicated events.

This year, in collaboration with the British Council, the Museum is proud to host internationally renowned and award-winning British director of opera, television, and music documentaries, Tony Palmer, for two commemorative screenings of his landmark work “CALLAS” (1978).

The documentary, which Palmer began while Callas was still alive and completed after her death, stands as a unique cinematic testimony to her life and artistry.

Audiences will have the rare opportunity to experience the film with the director in attendance, as he shares insights not only into the making of the work but also into the art of the music documentary—a genre in which he is regarded as one of the world’s foremost exponents.
