3 must-see performances in this year’s Athens & Epidaurus Festival

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival (www.greekfestival.gr) is already under way with a diverse programme, which features the most important representatives of the new generation of the Greek theatre and dance, as well as some of the most avant-garde foreign artistic ensembles. The main venue of the events is “Peiraios 260”, at the old industrial warehouses of Piraeus Avenue, which hosts, among other things, the performance of “Sonya” (16-18/6) by The New Riga Theatre, directed by the internationally acclaimed Alvis Hermanis from Latvia. In the same venue, Thomas Ostermeier from Germany, who takes an always innovative look at classic texts, collaborates with Schaubuehne of Berlin in Lillian Hellman’s “Little Foxes” (19-21/6), while Romeo Castellucci from Italy will participate for the third time in the festival with a performance titled “Go down, Moses” (28-30/6), which will be staged at the “Onassis Cultural Centre” of Syngrou Avenue.
