A first look at the brand new “Beauty Κilled the Beast”

In Kerameikos, the beloved “alternative” neighborhood of Athens, the brand-new “Beauty Killed The Beast” (14, Paramythias Street), situated on the same street as the famous Greek gourmet restaurant “Funky Gourmet,” is already the talk of the town. In the morning it serves coffees, Valrhona chocolates, juices, and smoothies, while in the evening it turns the spotlight on aperitifs and low ABV drinks, and continues with a series of cocktails created by the trio behind the bar, namely Vassilis Roussos, Nikos Pouzbouris and Lydia Bageorgou. We singled out the (Sic), with tequila, Averna, strawberries, agave, balsamic vinegar, lime, and salt, or the Salty terrier that is made with rosemary-flavored vodka, sherry oloroso, homemade lemonade and tomato shrub. Besides the snack/bar food, that is three versions of pizza, tacos, and sandwiches made with hand-kneaded bread, the few but interesting food options offered by Chef Dimitris Kontopoulos include some main courses, such as linguini with pear, truffle and prosciutto, and the Vegas strip steak with country-style potatoes. The décor of the “Beauty Killed the Beast,” is also of particular interest, as this haunt is housed in an old 1933 mansion with carved ceilings, mirrors, a velvet quilted semi-circular sofa in bright blue color, and a large fresco dedicated to the King Kong film that inspired the name of the place.
