The Greece-China 2017 - Year of Cultural Exchanges unfolds in Athens
The Year of Cultural Exchanges between Greece and China makes its presence felt in
Athens, through a panorama of events for young and old, and a host of performances, concerts, shows, and exhibitions dedicated to the two distant civilizations. For the first contact with Chinese culture, visit the
National Museum of Contemporary Art, which, in cooperation with the Beijing Art Museum, hosts a major art exhibition dedicated to the Xieyi free painting style until April 14. With works drawing inspiration from China’s nature and everyday life, this particular abstraction technique is a landmark of Chinese culture. At the same time, until April 29, the
Herakleidon Museum is hosting the exhibition titled “Ancient Chinese Science and Technology” of the China Museum of Science and Technology, featuring 90 of the most remarkable technological achievements of the Chinese civilization. Visitors will discover the secrets of Chinese scientific thinking, with the help of impressive simulations from the fields of astronomy, navigation, weaving and other. For theater lovers, Chinese director and vice-president of the National Theater of Beijing Wang Xiaoying brings to Athens the famous Chinese performance “The Orphan of Zhao,” which will be staged at the National Theater in the spring of 2018. In the context of cultural exchanges, the Chinese public will have, in its turn, the opportunity to enjoy the magic of the Greek theater, watching Aeschylus’ “Agamemnon,” directed by Stathis Livathinos. Last but not least, to pay tribute to this distant country, the Athens Concert Hall organizes a “Chinese” music evening on April 16, honored by the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, one of China’s most famous orchestras.
