TRAVEL TIPS
Check-in on the roofs of Athens’ hotels
The hotels in
Athens put their privileged height and location to good use and invite us for a walk on their atmospheric terraces. The first stop of our “flight” above Athens is the “Galaxy Bar and Restaurant” of the Athens Hilton, for creative cocktails and dinner in the restaurant. The cocktail tradition continues with an aromatic Carpe Noctem or a classic Manhattan aged in a barrel, which we enjoy listening to the music played by guest DJs. The “Penthouse 21” at the “President” hotel is a well-kept secret among those who like terraces, as it offers drinks at affordable prices and breathtaking views. We dress smart casual and climb to the “GB Roof Garden” and the “Bar 8”, at the “Great Britain”, the city’s classiest hotel. With the fantastic frame of the Acropolis in front of us, we choose a Martini from the list’s many suggestions and, of course, we make sure to taste the delectable desserts of Arnaud Lahrer or the cuisine of Asterios Koustoudis. The “Art Lounge” of the “New Hotel” features unique aesthetics: wrought-iron pieces of furniture meet contemporary artworks, rare book editions, and limited-edition magazines - this terrace is the definition of modern urban design. Finally, in “AthensWas”, a member of Design Hotels, the “Modern Rooftop Dining” bar restaurant that was decorated by Stavros Papayiannis and the Stage Design Office offers spectacular panoramic views of all the area around
Acropolis.
