For the dough:

  • 2 cups olive oil
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup orange juice
  • ¾ cup cognac
  • 7-8 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cooking soda

For the syrup:

  • 2 cups honey
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • An orange peel


  1. Beat together the first 4 ingredients. Sift the flour, baking powder and cooking soda 3 times. Add the sifted combination in the first mixture with the olive oil and stir well.
  2. Mould small quantities (in the shape of an egg) and give them oblong shape. Place them on baking paper and bake under medium fire for 30 minutes.
  3. Boil the ingredients for the syrup. Let it cool down and drop the hot baked melomakarona in the cold syrup.
  4. Let the melomakarona in the syrup for 15 -20 sec. then take them out and place them on a plater.
  5. Sprinkle them with honey, chopped walnuts and cinnamon.
