Athens International Film Festival 2026


Athens welcomes the 32nd Athens International Film Festival from 30 September to 11 October, one of the city’s most important film festivals.

For twelve days, cinemas across the city become meeting points for contemporary Greek and international cinema, with highly anticipated premieres, competitions, special screenings, tributes, masterclasses and parallel events.

The programme of the 32nd Festival includes, among others, the International Competition, International Documentary Competition, Greek Short Stories, Greek Short Stories – Competition, Midnight Express, After Hours, Kids’ Kino, Short Films and Greek Cinema.

Wild Horse Nine

The 32nd Opening Nights, in collaboration with the Release Athens Festival, are organising a special evening at a well-known concert venue, turning a film screening into a live music experience.

“PINK NARCISSUS” (1971), directed by James Bidgood, is one of the most distinctive and recognisable films of queer underground cinema. The screening will feature original live music by Konstantinos Vita.

Tribute “YORGOS LANTHIMOS PRESENTS”

Yorgos Lanthimos takes on the role of curator and invites audiences at the 32nd Athens International Film Festival to discover a selection of films chosen by him. From anarchic comedies, vibrant documentaries and unconventional buddy films seen through an unexpectedly feminine gaze) to coming-of-age stories, tales of female emancipation, and forbidden games of love and death.

The screenings and events will take place at cinemas and cultural venues in central Athens and in different areas of the city, including OLYMPIA – Municipal Music Theatre “Maria Callas”, the Athens Concert Hall and the Onassis Stegi.
