Journey to the land of Asklepios
Of course, the broader region of eastern coastal Argolida has so much more to offer. Cosmopolitan Palaia Epidavros (Old Epidaurus), the seaside hamlet built on the site of the ancient city, has become a popular destination due to its proximity to the theatre. It has a picturesque waterfront and is ideal for lovely seaside walks. Here you will find the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus, which also hosts festival performances.
Nea Epidavros is located slightly higher up, perched on the slope. Despite its name, it has a long history, as evidenced by the castle that dominates its peak. It is a historic location, as this was the site of the First Greek National Assembly in 1822, during the Greek War of Independence.
Lygourio, by the ancient theatre, is a small village with traditional kafenia, shops, and a stone-paved square. A meal at its tavernas immediately after a performance at the ancient theatre is a decades-old custom.
The setting is completed by incredible beaches shaded by verdant pines, wonderful hiking trails and routes among ancient ruins, and orange and olive groves, as well as traditional tavernas for fresh fish meze and products of the land of Argolida.
The region of Epidavros, with its serene nature, the influence of this primordial land, and its mystical history, invites us to explore it.

By Bus
Intercity KTEL buses connect Epidavros with Athens, Nafplio, Argos, and nearby towns. Daily services from Athens take approximately 2–2.5 hours, while buses from Nafplio take about 1 hour, providing a reliable option for travelers without a car.
