The grandeur of mountainous Greece

During Carnival, the custom of the Bonfires takes place, with fires lit in the city's neighbourhoods, while on Lazarus Saturday, the "Lazarines", young local girls, roam the villages, visiting homes and offering "Lazaropita" cake. The "Tranos Choros" dance, held in Vlasti, Kozani, has been inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

By Air
Kozani is served by Kozani National Airport “Filippos”, located about 4 km from the city center (roughly 10 minutes by car). For international travelers, the nearest major airports are Thessaloniki International Airport “Macedonia” (about 210 km away, ~1 hour flight to Athens if connecting) and Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (about 580 km away, ~1 hour flight to Thessaloniki if connecting). From either major airport, onward travel to Kozani requires 2.5–7 hours by road depending on starting point.
