Options to fit every mood
Kea combines wild Cycladic nature with a mild, earthy sense of hospitality. Its beaches spread across coves and small bays that embrace the island from every side. From the most easily accessible to the most secluded, each has its own rhythm, colour, and light.
Korissia, the port of the island, offers nearby Gialiskari beach, which ideal for your first swim as soon as you arrive. Calm, with fine pebbles and tamarisk trees, it is located next to cafés and tavernas. From there, a short route leads to Xyla, a quieter natural cove with clear waters.
Slightly further north, Otzias beach forms a large bay with shallow, warm waters that are ideal for families. The area has facilities and restaurants, while retaining its traditional character.
As you follow the road towards the eastern side of the island, you will come across Spathi, one of the most beautiful and popular beaches of Kea. This golden bay has fine sand and turquoise waters, and is framed by rocky terrain covered in thyme. It has beach bars and sun loungers, as well as quiet spots near the edges for those who prefer silence.
In the south, Kambi offers a wilder experience, with serene, pebbled beaches, while Kato Meria leads to small, secluded coves, such as Skala and Lygia.
Moving west from Ioulida you will reach Vourkari, the most vibrant bay of the island, with cafés, galleries, marinas, and views of the sailing boats moored in the harbour. A little further along lies Pouri beach, for those who want to swim in absolute tranquillity.
The most unique route is the one leading to the legendary Koundouros beach, with its stone windmills reflected in the sea. The bay is protected from the north wind, and boasts blue waters and modern beach bars, without losing its charm. Nearby, Frea offers a quieter version of the same image.
