The anniversary of the Exodus of Messolonghi (April 10) is one of the most important moments in Greek history, which inspired, among others, the iconic painting "Greece in the ruins of Missolonghi" (1826) by Eugene Delacroix. The anniversary is commemorated every year on the evening of Lazarus Saturday and on Palm Sunday, featuring highly symbolic events that narrate again the chronicle of the heroic act that defined the Revolution of 1821. The solemn procession starts from the Metropolis, concludes at the Garden of Heroes and is accompanied by a multitude of cultural reenactments, which move both locals and visitors alike.
