Experience the musical heritage of a great Greek artist
The Tsitsanis Museum is housed in the renovated complex of the Old Trikala Prison, a building with a strong historical imprint, which was given a new lease on life thanks to its meticulous restoration and promotion. During the restoration works, an impressive Ottoman bath (hammam) dating back to the 16th century was unearthed, adding a further dimension to the cultural experience of visitors.
The exhibits include personal objects, authentic scores, recordings and photographs, while modern multimedia displays allow the past to “speak”, bringing the era and the world of Tsitsanis to life.
The exterior is dominated by the artist’s image, imprinted in an eye-catching, moving mosaic. Visitors can participate in educational programmes, attend concerts and lectures held at the Museum or consult the rich archival material of the library and the research centre.
The Tsitsanis Museum is a symbol that combines tradition with modern cultural production. It is a place of memory and creation which presents the genuine folk soul of Greece.
