Following in the footsteps of a great Greek politician
Through original furniture, personal belongings, photographs, manuscripts, and documents, you can follow the path Venizelos followed from Crete, to the national political scene, and the international events of the 20th century. Interactive projections and archival material will illuminate his personality and his decisive contribution to the shaping of modern Greece. Young visitors will find interesting educational games and activities, as the attic of the historic building has been specially designed for them.
You will quickly realise that the presence and importance of Venizelos have left many a mark in Chania: His statues in central parts of the prefecture, the Venizelos tombs on Profitis Ilias hill, as well as the two other museums of the Foundation — in Mournies, where he was born, and in Theriso, the historical site of the revolt of 1905. Together, they form a vibrant network of historical memory and honour, well worth your time during your trip to Chania.
