Ermonela Jaho ‒ Charles Castronovo
Opera Gala - Maria Callas Centenary
The tribute of Megaron Athens Concert Hall for the 100 years since the birth of Maria Callas (1923-1977) culminates on Sunday, December 3, at 20:30, with a great opera gala featuring soprano Ermonela Jaho and tenor Charles Castronovo, both reigning in the global operatic scene for years.
In the concert tribute to Maria Callas, Ermonela Jaho and Charles Castronovo, performers with impressive vocal and acting skills, will offer the Greek audience some of the most beautiful pages of the Italian and French repertoire. They will interpret arias that remind us of the roles that Callas enacted uniquely, as well as characteristic duets from operas such as: Gustave Charpentier’s “Louise”, Édouard Lalo’s “Le roi d'Ys”, Jules Massenet’s “Thaïs” and “Manon”, Francesco Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” and “L’Arlesiana”, Pietro Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Lodoletta”, as well as Giacomo Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”.
Ermonela Jaho and Charles Castronovo will be accompanied by the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by the internationally acclaimed maestro Lukas Karytinos. For the evening's programme, the musicians of the well-known Athenian ensemble have also chosen enchanting orchestral excerpts including selections from Georges Bizet’s “Carmen”, Ambroise Thomas’s “Mignon”, Pietro Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and Giacomo Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut”.
