MUNICIPAL ART GALLERY OF LARISSA – G.I. KATSIGRA MUSEUM / LARISA

Larissa mea dulcissima

The Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa – G.I. Katsigra Museum presents for the first time a historical exhibition in the "Irene Katsigra" hall entitled "Larissa mea dulcissima".

It is an exhibition of the unique collection of the scholar from Larissa Nikolaos Ath. Papatheodorou, which consists of hundreds of objects of various categories, most of which are related to Larissa and the wider region of Thessaly. Among them are rare items, such as palaeotypes, travel publications, works of scholars of the Modern Greek Enlightenment (historical, religious, Thessalian writers, etc.), engravings and old photographs, postcards, icons and various ecclesiastical items, heirlooms of families of the city. These objects cover a period of more than four hundred years, from the 16th century (1523) to the first half of the 20th century (1950).

The exhibition material is organized into thematic sections and subsections and a narrative grid is formed with an understandable conceptual path and chronological order.
The first two themes are about the city. The first section is dedicated to the city of Larissa from the 17th to the 20th century. The second section deals with Thessaly, the documents of which shed light on unknown aspects of life in the region from the 16th to the 20th century and describe its fascinating locations.
The third and fourth sections include works from the collection of N. Papatheodoros.

The exhibition is accompanied by a multi-page catalogue.
The exhibition is supported by the Diachronic Museum of Larissa.
