Bolero by Antonis Foniadakis

The dance performance "Bolero" by Antonis Foniadakis will be presented at the Central Square of Kalamata on Saturday 16 July 2023, as part of  the Kalamata Dance Festival.


The recognisable rhythm of the bolero has been inspiring musicians and choreographers for centuries. In Andonis Foniadakis’ choreography, the slow but persistent repeating rhythm of the music functions as a constant driving force that leads the dancers both physically and mentally into a battle of endurance throughout the performance. The dancers, placed on the thin and constantly moving surface of the trampolines, balance the instability of the vertical movement and ultimately conquer the repetitive rhythm of the bolero, leading them to a collective climax and purification.
