See through your wine testing glass the winelands of Achaia, Peloponnese.

Greece is remarkable among wine-producing countries in terrain and in climate. Flavours, and even colours, of Greek wines can be startlingly distinctive, explaining the development of appellations of origin, or appellations contrôlées.

Hike the wine roads in Achaia, and taste aromatic wines, while wine experts teach you the art of making wine. Follow selected routes, and admire the most stunning spots of the viticultural zone. Signposted paths will take you to vineyards and wineries, archaeological sites, churches, monasteries and museums. Elegant hotels and traditional guest houses are waiting to provide you luxurious accommodation. Fine restaurants and local taverns will offer you inspired culinary creations.

With vineyards which cover more than 6,700 hectares, the winelands of Achaia produce some of the most famous wine varieties. Taste ancient indulgences that survive in aromatic wines; have some Muscat, and savour its sweet taste, and strong, lingering aroma.

Drink the delicate and floral Roditis. Have a sip of the traditional deep-red, sweet Mavrodaphne, a full-bodied wine that transforms slowly through controlled oxidation into a heavenly caramel nectar. Seek for the rare Mavrodaphne released from the winery "Imperial Cellar", that satisfies even the most demanding customers. This huge cellar contains casks from every vintage wine, each of which is dedicated to a head of state, or a visiting celebrity. This age-old tradition started in 1885, when the Empress Elizabeth of Austria unexpectedly arrived at the area, and has survived throughout the years.
