Tennessee Williams’ “Sweet bird of youth” at the National Theatre of Greece

Sweet bird of youth, written in 1959, is one of Tennessee Williams's most famous and well loved plays, and is being staged for the first time by the Greek National Theatre.

Efi Theodorou’s fascinatingly cast production promises unique insights into this masterpiece about two people who fall from an escapist fantasy into harsh reality.

Follow the steps of the young and ambitious Chance Wayne who, in the company of a once-famous actress, Alexandra Del Lago, returns to his hometown, a place where violence, survival of the fittest and racism now predominate. The two of them, fearful of time’s relentless forward march, take refuge in their dreams of fame and fortune. However, these dreams never come true.
