Dimitris Pikionis Exhibition at the Benaki Museum

The exhibition at the Benaki Museum includes the majority of Dimitris Pikionis’s oeuvre, both in painting and architecture, acquired by the Museum due to a major donation by the Pikionis family. Painting was a private affair for Dimitris Pikionis, associated with his personal artistic path to maturity.

The first part of the exhibition presents his paintings oeuvre in the groups he himself designated: From Nature, Recollections of Paris, Antiquities, Byzantine, Imaginary and Folk pieces.

The second part of the exhibition presents the entirety of his architectural oeuvre, his studies of the architecture of Zagora and Kastoria; a part of his study on the Vernacular Architecture of the island of Chios; the issues of “The third eye Magazine”, as well as the testimony of his relationships with people such as Giorgio de Chirico, Bouzianis, Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas, Yannis Tsarouhis, Angelos Sikelianos, Walter Gropius, Constantine Doxiadis and others.
