Churches - Prefecture of Thessalonica

Of course, there are more locations of the Prefecture of Thessalonica, where one can see remarkable monasteries and Byzantine churches.
Aghios Andreas in Peristera (871 A.D.), a Paleochristian building with particular characteristics that underwent many interventions, the church of Metamorfosi tou Sotiros (Transfiguration) at Chortiati (12th century), with remarkable mural paintings, only parts of which survive, the monastery of Aghia Anastasia located not far from Thessalonica after Vassilika village, exhibiting valuable heirlooms and manuscripts, as well as the sacred relics of Saint Anastasia which, according to the tradition, were donated to the Monastery Theofano, consort of Emperor Leon VI the Wise (893 A.D.) Moreover, near Vertisko there is a church of Aghios Athanasios with frescos dating back to 1740, while in the outskirts of Asprovalta, at a region not so easy to access, you will find the monastery of Aghios Georgios with the relics of frescos at the church of the monastery. Finally, it is worth mentioning the more recent monastery of Aghios Ioannis Theologou at Souroti.
