On foot - Rodopi Prefecture

The mountains of Rodopi extend all along the Greek-Bulgarian borders. The region has vast forested regions and is one of the biggest wild regions in Europe. Along the Valley of Kompsatos River there are still some beautiful riverside forests and golden, short-toed lesser-spotted eagles live around mount Papikio.
To the east of Iasmos, there is an amazing gorge looking to the north, which is ideal for the unique experience of bird watching. At the northern side of Komotini, 2 km away from the town extends the enchanting suburban grove of Nymfaia. The Municipal Tourist Kiosk which offers a uniquely beautiful view is a point of reference and a resting place for visitors.
The fully equipped mountain lodge of the Komotini Alpine Club is located at an altitude of 1050 m. The European mountain path E6 is uniquely important, as it passes through the mountainous region of Rodopi and offers incredible emotions to hiking lovers.
Wild horses galloping across the amazing landscape characterized by the presence of vertical rocky formations, springs and great natural beauty is the picture that the region of Kerasia-Iasmos-Astraia offers.
