A total of 190 species have been found in the surrounding area of the hydro-habitat of Ismarida lake. Some of the rarest ones are: the Oystercatcher, the Great White egret, the Charadrius alexandrinus, the Spoonhill, the Glossy ibis, the Avocet, the Black-winged Stilt, the Stone curlew and the Collared Pratincole. Furthermore, Dalmatian Pelicans, Flamingos, Divers, Phalacrocoraces, Herons, Geese, Ducks, Cormorants, Pygmy Cormorants, White-Headed ducks and other species also nest in the area.
Eels, sea basses, grey mullets, soles and gilt-head sea-breams are the most common species of fish population found in the hydro-habitat, while there are also many reptile species and mammals, otters being the rarest one.
Finally, many plant species such as water lilies, sea daffodils, ash-trees, poplars, willows, elms, etc are found in the hydro-habitat.
