This year marks the start of the Hellenic Festival initiative to inject theatrical life back into the “empty shells” of Greece’s ancient theatres.
In collaboration with DIAZOMA Association – Citizens for the Ancient Theatres, the words of Greece’s national poet, Dionysios Solomos, ring out this summer in ancient theatres, archaeological sites and Odea; Dimos Avdeliodis’ production of “The Woman of Zakythos”, which was staged at last year’s Festival, performing Olia Lazaridou, goes on tour around the country.
“And before all those others, it was the Woman of Zakythos that entered my mind, who struggles to damage others with her tongue and actions, and was the nation’s mortal enemy”.
