The festival is named “Alexiada” after Anna Komnene’s (Comnena) historical account of her father’s rein Alexius I Comnenus, who defeated the Normans in Kastoria in 1083 ending thus the city’s occupation. “Alexiada” is an original and highly interesting festival bringing together the city’s past and present through music, images and tastes.

Join the festival and walk around the lake under the sounds of Byzantine music, enjoy concerts, street parades and traditional songs and dances, visit the open medieval Byzantine market and watch street theatre performances as well as the spectacular celebration of Kastoria’s historical liberation by the emperor Alexius I Comnenus.
Kastoria is the perfect place for such a festival since Byzantine monuments are omnipresent in the city.Don’t miss the chance to visit ‘Byzantine’ Kastoria and let it travel you to its glorious past and its charming present.
