Art works and artefacts on display at the Louvre will be exhibited for the first time in Greece in the context of the 47th Dimitria celebrations and as part of the events commemorating the centenary of the northern Greece metropolis’ liberation.
The five venues – the Archaelogical Museum of Thessaloniki, the Museum of Byzantine Culture, the State Museum of Contemporary Art, the Teloglion Foundation of Art and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art - are participating in the overall exhibition entitled The Louvre in Thessaloniki.
The initiative comes in reciprocation of the renowned Paris museum’s hosting of the significant exhibition entitled Ancient Macedonia: In the Kingdom of Alexander the Great which was hosted at the Louvre from October 2011 to January 2012, replete with exhibits from various collections across the region of Macedonia.
