The long route which for many centuries facilitated the transport of commodities as well as ideas and cultural elements between Europe and Asia had a decisive effect on gastronomy too.
At Sani Gourmet 2014, famous chefs (such as Jereme Leung, Riccardo Di Giacinto, Andrea Fusco, Ugur Alparlan and Chrysanthos Karamolengos) will illuminate through their menus aspects of the gastronomic trail carved out over the centuries along the Silk Road. This is a gastronomic trail which, starts in China and passing through ‘stops’ such as India, Iran, Turkey and Greece, ends in Italy.
Several questions about the influence of Asian cuisine to European cuisine, the evolution and assimilation of different kinds of food in the gastronomic culture of different countries and about the similarities and differences between Asian and European cuisine will form the basis of the dialogue among the guest chefs.
All these different cultures and flavours compose a mosaic of gastronomy with features unique for each country and others which are common for all these countries. This finding constitutes the objective of Sani Gourmet 2014: to help us realise that food has brought together the cultures of Asia and Europe!
