Under the artistic direction of Alexander Mirat, the Thessaloniki State Orchestra takes part in the 56th Philippoi Thassos Festival with this concert, thus commemorating the 200th anniversary since Giuseppe Verdi’s birth (1813-1901).
The soprano Dimitra Theodossiou and the bass Dimitris Kavrakos, two world-known artists who appear in major opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera House in London (Covent Garden) will collaborate with the orchestra. The wonderful programme contains well-known arias, preludes and other instrumental parts from the Italian composer's most popular operas.
The event is fruit of cooperation between the 14th International Festival Yiannis Papaioannou and the 56th Philippoi Thassos Festival.
This year's festival will last until September 1 and is dedicated to the city of Kavala and to the famous poet C.P Cavafy. It is dedicated to the city because of the 100 years of its liberation, and to the great Greek poet for the completion of 150 years from his birth.
The programme of the 56th festival, under the artistic direction by Thodoris Gonis, is very rich and includes theatre, dance, poetry readings, film screenings, art exhibition, musical tributes and opera performances.
Don’t miss on the chance to attend this special meeting with art and culture in beautiful Northern Greece.
