Marios Strofalis Quartet at Megaro Gyzi Festival 2013

If you spend your summer holidays at the charming multi-award winning island of Santorini, don’t miss out on the chance to watch the music performance European Taxim by the quartet of Marios Strofalis on August 4, 2013, as part of this year’s Megaro Gyzi Festival programme.

Marios Strofalis is an award-winning soundtrack composer, with a large discography. His music is used in many films, television series and theatrical performances, and his tango compositions earn, year after year, worldwide recognition.

Marios Strofalis’ quartet is a musical ensemble with strong cinematic and southern European influences; the group has been quite active in the past ten years as they have played in music stages, theatres and concert halls. The group’s members are Marios Strofalis (piano), Vangelis Vergotis (accordion), Alfredo Shtuni (violin) and Alexandros Botinis (violoncello).

The European Taxim is a nostalgic tour in cultural ports of the peoples of south Europe and the Mediterranean, where popularised classical forms are “married” with favourite dances, such as the Mediterranean tango, Smyrna bolero, nuevo tango, Aegean balos, nouvelle jazz française , Andalusian ballad, flamenco, tarantella and the lyrical Mediterranean waltz.

The Megaro Gyzi Festival 2013 takes place from August 1 to August 23 under the artistic direction of Yannis Papaconstantinou.
