C. P. Cavafy: “Painted”. 40 Contemporary Greek Creators

Visit the multifaceted exhibition titled C. P. Cavafy: “Painted”. 40 Contemporary Greek Creators at the B.& M. Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts and Music in the centre of Athens, which will be running from September 25, 2013 to December 8, 2013.

The exhibition is organised in cooperation with the European Cultural Centre of Delphi on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of C.P. Cavafy. Over one hundred pieces of painting, sculpture, engraving, drafts, installations along with the poet’s manuscripts and valuable issues are on display at the Foundation.

“Painted” brings to light the universal aspect of C.P. Cavafy’s poetry as it is communicated through major works of art and drafts by Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas and Yannis Tsarouchis as well as 38 other visual artists who chose poems of the Alexandrian poet to enhance the rendering of their vision of the world. Tetsis, Theocharakis, Karas, Tsoclis, Xenakis, Mytaras, Fasianos, Sorogas, Makroulakis, Droungas, Issaris, Levidis, Fanakidis, Psychopedis, Arvanitis, Xenou, Adamakos, Daskalakis, Papadimitriou, Manousakis, Arfaras, Varotsos, Gonou, Papasaikas, Bokoros, Sacaillan, Spiliopoulos, Charos, Madenis, Athanasiadi, Gyparakis, Rorris, Psychoulis, Charalabidis, Papailiakis, Choudalakis, Sofianopoulos and Stoantzikis created imaginative works of art closely related to Cavafy’s poetic realm, which reveal a universe where writing and image coexist dynamically. The exhibition is curated by Takis Mavrotas.
