Athens Classic Marathon 2012

The 30th Athens Classic Marathon invites runners from all over the world to live a unique athletic and cultural experience on November 11, 2012.

The Athens Classic Marathon, organised by the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS), constitutes a major sport but also cultural event in which thousands of runners from Greece and abroad proudly take part. It is held on the authentic, historical, Olympic Marathon course offering the opportunity to athletes and citizens to run the course that was originally run by the ancient Athenian soldier and message bearer and then by Spyros Louis, the first Olympic Champion in the Marathon event in 1896.

Apart from the Marathon Race, a 5 km road race, a 10 km road race and power walking will take place.
This year’s marathon race coincides with three anniversaries. In 2012, the Athens Classic Marathon celebrates its 30th anniversary as an international race, while also the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Finally, since this year is the 100th anniversary of the Balkan champion and pacifist Grigoris Lambrakis’ birth, ACM 2012 is dedicated to his memory.

The Greek National Tourism Organisation strongly supports, through its sponsorship, the Athens Classic Marathon.
We all invite you to visit Athens and take part into a course in history, into a unique event uniting people from all over the world.
