Agamemnon at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus

Following last year’s successful Seven Against Thebes, Cezaris Graužinis returns to the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus with a production of Agamemnon (6-7 July).

In the first part of Aeschylus’ Oresteia trilogy, Agamemnon returns to Argos after the end of the Trojan war. Clytemnestra warmly receives her husband. In truth, she has decided to take revenge for the murder of their daughter, Iphigenia, sacrificed by Agamemnon to get the Greek ships afloat over ten years ago. Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon and the captured princess, Cassandra, thus continuing the bloodshed of the Atreides house, which will also continue in the two other parts of the trilogy.

Yannis Stankoglou will portray both Agamemnon and Aegisthus, with Maria Protopappa in the role of Clytemnestra. The cast also includes Thodoris Katsafados, Argyris Pantazaras, Iovi Fragatou and a 12-member chorus. The performance will feature a new translation by Yorgos Blanas and original music by Haris Pegiazis.

With English Surtitles.
