This year’s festival gets inspired by the city of Kavala and its historic settlements “Pentakosia” and “Chilia” out of which came its title “Apo ta Pentakosia sta Cheilia”.
The festival’s programme includes a wide range of events; great performances of ancient drama, concerts, readings, dance-theatre and exhibitions.
The events culminate in August; the Ancient Theatre of Philippi will host significant productions such as “Thesmophoriazousae” (1 and 2/8), “Matchmaking” (8 and 9/8) and “Lysistrata” (29 and 30/8).
Music will also hold a significant place in this year’s programme. Many renowned Greek singers such as Eleftheria Arvanitaki together with Alkistis Protopsalti (13/8) and Evanthia Reboutsika (25/8) promise to offer unforgettable moments to the public.
The 57th Philippi Festival also includes its own productions like Glykeria Basdeki’s new play “Donna abbandonata or You really disappointed me, Mr George” at “Antigoni Valakou” Theatre on August 4, 5 and 6.
