54th Thessaloniki International Film Festival

Faithful to its established annual appointment, the 54th Thessaloniki International Film Festival will take place from November 1, 2013 to November 10, 2013 for a ten-day celebration of film-making.

Films from all over the world, cinematic surprises, distinguished guests, tributes, round table discussions and parallel events will turn the city of Thessaloniki into a place of discovery and productive dialogue for the Seventh Art.

This year, the TIFF presents a special tribute to the Contemporary Argentine Cinema, one of the most fascinating and developed cinemas of Latin America. The films included in the TIFF’s tribute assess contemporary society by peering into its smaller units: relationships between friends and couples as well as family members; generational and class struggles; romantic predicaments and the uncertainties of the young fuel the filmmakers’ intriguing cinematic explorations.

Two French film directors are to be honoured this year in the 54th edition of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival: Alain Guiraudie and Claire Simon.

The Open Horizons section focuses on films that represent the most recent trends in worldwide independent production, as well as thematically original, aesthetically challenging and socially minded films. Among these, are Katharina Mückstein's Talea and I Used to Be Darker by Matthew Porterfield.

The Balkan Survey section celebrates its 20 years with a special anniversary tribute showcasing a selection of popular and significant Balkan films. Also, the 54th TIFF will host a number of feature films produced in 2013 in Greece and in co-production with other countries, while the AGORA INDUSTRY will welcome worldwide known film professionals.

Thessaloniki offers the promise of a journey into the magic realm of the Art of Cinema and independent film production!
