The Athens Open Air Film Festival, established in the summer of 2011 by the Athens International Film Festival - Opening Nights and CINEMA magazine, and kindly supported this year by the Greek National Tourism Organisation, infuses the city with film screenings and other cultural events against a unique urban backdrop: Athens' most characteristic monuments!
The 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival kicked off on June 11, 2013 with the screening of Before Midnight at Pallas Theater attended by director Richard Linklater and leading actors Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, as well as local actors, members of the supporting cast Xenia Kalogeropoulou, Athina Rachel Tsangari and Panos Koronis.
From June to September, Athens will be brimming with film screenings, in parks, pedestrian zones and squares, museum and museum courtyards offering a summer memory that citizens and visitors of Athens can never forget.
The film screenings consist of classic masterpieces from the greatest moments of the World Cinema History, two of this year's most anticipated premieres, a selection of Greek films that have left their mark on national cinema, two themed movies, silent films accompanied by live music soundtrack especially composed for the occasion by Greek musicians, a handful of groundbreaking short films and special screenings on the occasion of 14th July and on the occasion of the 50-year anniversary from the release of the film "Jason and the Argonauts".
