1st Mastiha Festival


Dedicated to the most famous product of Chios Island, the internationally known mastic which grows only there, is the 1st Mastiha (Mastic) Festival which takes place at this beautiful island of the Northeastern Aegean Sea until August 30, 2014.

The 1st Mastiha Festival aims at promoting the relationship between Chios mastiha (mastic) and local history, tradition, cultural heritage, traditional production and contemporary artistic creation.

The festival’s main event is the exhibition of local food and cultural products which is accompanied by concerts, dance performances, theatrical performances, screenings and workshops for children.

Among the events included in the festival’s programme are the Mastiha Fair at Olympoi (a mastic village) and two exhibitions; the art exhibition “Poetics of Chios” and a photography exhibition with themes from Chios’ mastiha.

The 1st Mastiha Festival is organised by the North Aegean Region in collaboration with The Chios Gum Mastic Growers Association and the Cultural Foundation of the Piraeus Group.
