17th Preveza Jazz Festival

For 3 unique evenings (May 31st - June 2nd), Preveza's port hosts jazz rhythms and beyond, offering high quality musical sounds with selected guests from many European countries as well as special acquaintances.

The 17th Preveza Jazz Festival comes to its regular appointment with summer, co-organized by Preveza Regional Prefecture, the Municipality of Preveza and the Preveza Jazz Festival non-profit, under the auspices of the Embassies and Institutes of Austria, Holland, Switzerland, Sweden, Great Britain and Luxembourg. For the 2nd year, the Grand Donor of Preveza Jazz Festival is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Friends of the Festival and many visitors will be in this multifarious event to enjoy 3 days of festive music.

On Friday May 31, the first day of the festival, the evening starts with the new Austrian sound of jazz from the mysterious, off-the-road sound of the Month of Sundays. This is followed by the Swedish quartet Filip Jers Quartet combining jazz and Swedish traditional music as a springboard to take off the musical craftsmanship at new heights. The evening closes with the explosive rhythm of the Septeto Internacional, the seven-member figure representing the Swiss participation, yet composed of seven musicians from Europe and Cuba.

The second day, on Saturday 1st June, begins with trumpeter Ernie Hammes, from Luxembourg, an outstanding artist with deep knowledge of jazz, latin music, baroque and symphonic music. Then the Dutch band Things I Can not Control comes to share its love for the earthly harmonies and sounds coming from folk music and indie rock in their own organic, warm and unpredictable universe. Nalyssa Green, Sugahspank! and Lou is traveling with their singular voices to the wonderful universe of Leonard Cohen, with A Tribute to Leonard Cohen a musical tribute to his music and work.

On the third Sunday of June 3, the Yiasena quartet from London travels us to their musical bridges from Greece, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and other places with similar musical traditions and culture with jazz filter, improvisation, adaptations and new compositions. The climax of the three-day event comes with the appearance of Dimitra Galani Trio. The great performer Dimitra Galani returns to Preveza after many years and meets two of the best musicians of the new generation of the Greek music scene. Thomas Konstantinou, a great master and the outstanding jazz pianist Spyros Manes. Together, the three make a show - embrace, with songs with influences from the East and the West.
