14th Festival of Sacred Music of Patmos

Unique in its kind, the Festival of Sacred Music of Patmos takes place for the 14th year in the outdoor area of the Sacred Cave of the Apocalypse from August 29, 2014 till September, 3 2014.

This is a special occasion which combines artistic excellence with performances of high musical and spiritual content. In its 14-year-long history the Festival of Sacred Music of Patmos has presented a vast number of artists and many of the most beautiful works of both orthodox and catholic tradition.

This year’s programme is particularly rich in content. It includes a special concert tribute to two great Greek artists, Domenicos Theotokopoulos (400th death anniversary) and Manos Hadjidakis (20thdeath anniversary) while in the ‘heart’ of the festival are concerts with songs based on religious tradition but also hymns from the Byzantine, post-Byzantine and contemporary repertory of the sacred art of chant.

Pantelis Thalassinos will perform in the standard concert for Environment Day while the programme concludes with silent films projected with live music accompaniment.

The Festival of Sacred Music of Patmos is directed by composer Alkis Baltas and organised by the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Patmos.

The island of the Apocalypse invites you to enjoy its rich natural surroundings, the singularity of the Sacred Cave area and the Sacred Music Festival’s events.
