The coastal city with the large harbour is the base of the Municipality of Sikyonia, the second largest municipality in population in the Prefecture of Corinth. Not being far away from Athens (with which it is also connected with the suburban rail) it attracts many vacationers from Athens in summertime. It is located 21 km northwest of Corinth.

- The Ancient Sykyon (7 km. southwest) that was established during the Prehistoric years and enjoyed great prosperity during the period the Orthagorides tyrants rulled (7th – 6th cent. B.C.). It is worthwhile visiting the ancient theatre of Sykyon, one of the largest theatres of Ancient Greece, the foundations of the temple of Artemis or Apollo as well as the Roman baths where the archaeological museum is housed with sculptures, urns, tomb columns and other finds from the area.
