It is a large urban centre of a vast plain full of peach trees. During the Ottoman occupation it was called Roumlouki because it had many Romioi (the political name by which the Greeks were known during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages) inhabitants. From the folklore heritage of the village specific female costumes, which include something like a fez reminding of a casque from the times of Alexander the Great, are still preserved. Alexandria is located 25 km NE of Veria.
