Museums of Drama

The small but wisely organized Archaeological Museum of Drama is a historic memories’ “treasure chest” and gives visitors the possibility to follow the historical course of the region from its very beginning (50,000 B.C.) to the liberation of Drama (1913); it is one of the most important sights of Drama. The visitors can admire exhibits dating back to the Prehistoric period and associated with traces of the hunters' life during the Middle Paleolithic era found in the Aggitis Cave (or Maaras) as well as objects dating back to the Neolithic period and coming from the settlement of Sitagroi.

Then, the imaginary travel in history continues with some exhibits dating back to the Historic years. These include findings from the sanctuary of Dionysus in the ancient settlement of Drama as well as from the monumental sanctuary of the same god in Kali Vrysi, lots of coins from surrounding ancient cities and several findings dating back to the Roman period. Finally, visitors can see several findings dating back to the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine periods, such as ceramic items, coins, architectural pieces of buildings and more, all of which come from the town of Drama and the surrounding region.

The town of Drama also has an ecclesiastical museum, which is very interesting.
