In Acrokorinthos (home of the God of Sun!), 3.5km S of ancient Korinthos, on top of a mountain (575m height), which had always been the fortified citadel of Korinthos, stands the largest, most ancient and imposing castle in Peloponnese. Its walls were constructed during the Medieval times. It is also worth to see the ruins of Aphrodite's temple, as well as the ruins of Christian churches and Turkish constructions built on top of the hill. Apart from its archeological significance, Acrokorinthos is a fruitful botanic garden with many different native Greek wild flowers and belongs to the European Biotopes Network “NATURA 2000”.
