Ancient Avdira- Archeological Museum of Avdira

The ruins of ancient Avdira city are located in a beautiful area by the sea, 3km south of the present Avdira settlement. Since 1952, the same year when excavations started more intensively, several parts of the ancient city have been discovered.

Nowadays, you can see the ruins of the ancient city walls which were built out of limestone. The gate of Avdira city is still preserved not altered by the time. You will also see the impressive ruins of the ancient baths which were located in the most cosmopolitan place of the ancient city.

The city citadel was right next to the sea where you can still see its ruins. Interesting is also the ancient theater located in a grove on the north. In the west side of the archeological site you can see the ancient city houses.

The cemeteries are located outside the walls in the north side of the ancient city.
In Avdira you can also visit the archeological Museum which exhibits all historic findings of the archeological site such as jewels, bas-reliefs, tombs, toys etc.
