Hiking in Skiathos

Let’s have some leisurely walks in Skiathos!

Koukounaries forest:
A lovely walk through the famous Koukounaries forest, and around Lake Strofilia. (Length 4.2 km; duration 1h15; altitude sea level)
Begin your walk at the bus terminal at Koukounaries (bus stop 26); immediately after turn left into the forest; be careful not to walk out of the woods to the beach; turn to the left to an opening in the trees, where Koukounaries Lake appears in front of you; with the Lake on your right arrive at a fence (built around a protected area); open its gate, but don’t forget to close it! A few steps further you will find a small bridge; walk over it on a boardwalk along the famous Koukounaries beach. At the end of this path you will find your starting point.

Round Kanapitsa Peninsula: an easy walk to the island’s peninsula (Length 4.9 km; duration 2h; altitude 10 to 90m)
Point of departure is the bus stop 12 in the direction of Koukounaries. Pass the beaches Tzaneria and Kanapitsa; on your left you will see a signpost to Koutsouri Beach; about half way around the peninsula you will find a bench dedicated to the memory of Helen Dunlop; keep on walking and you will find yourself in the area around Vromolimnos; upon reaching the ring road at bus stop 13, turn right and in 200m distance you will find the starting point.

Evagelistrias Monastery & the Churches of St. Charalmbos, St. Apostolos and St. Dimitrios: A rather long-distance walk to Skiathos historical churches. (Length 7 km; duration 3h; altitude 150 to 405m)
The Church of Zoodohos Pigi is this walk’s starting point, just before Evagelistria monastery. A path behind the church will lead you to the monastery; follow the red signs along the road, and continue straight ahead until you reach St. Charalambos monastery; cross the courtyard. At the first junction turn left to the church of St. Apostolos; walk down the old path to Kryo Pygadi; from this point onwards, an asphalt road will take you to the churches of St. Nektarios and St. Dimitrios. Return to your starting point passing the church of the Archangels.
